Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips with commentary that analyze gender representations in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in the popular media. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she also works with issues that relate to the targeted harassment women and other classes of people online. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she's extremely sought-after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender and feminism since at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while still a student at the university. As of 2009, this determined young lady was harassed on the internet for her website that focused on the gender of videogames. But the assault did have been a hindrance, rather it made her more determined as a feminist critic of media. To honor the numerous achievements she's made for feministism, she's the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit examines how women are depicted in pop culture today.
