Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 into a very humble family of 12 children later on, realized early that she could get away from suffering through her imaginative mind. Before she was able to write and read, she was making up her own songs. Her first guitar purchase came when she was 8 and started singing at an Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. Her first album was recorded within the same calendar year with Gold Band Records, a small independent label. Even though she was still studying, she established a name for herself on the local scene. However, her goal was to to play on a bigger size. She moved to Nashville the day after graduating in 1964. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner began looking for new female vocalists for his TV show syndicated by a network at about the exact time. Parton was a part of the Grand Ole Opry 1969 after contracting to RCA Records. She quit Wagoner's act in 1974 after her own songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene beat out the collaborations. Parton composed I Will Always love You for Wagoner following their split. The song reached the top of the charts at. Its first appearance at No. 1 was 1974.
